LaMoure County
Snow Removal Policy
This snow removal policy has been drawn up to provide a guideline for snow removal and emergency procedures for LaMoure County.
In general, snow removal begins when there has been an accumulation of snow on roadways that is a hindrance to normal traffic. The LaMoure County Highway Department is responsible to remove snow and other material from County and Contracted Township roadways and maintain them for safe driving conditions. Snow removal will be initiated by the Superintendent of Roads.
Normally, snow removal will start as soon after the heavy snow stops as possible. Because of the added danger to both employees and the public, plows will not be dispatched during storms or when conditions are such that lives or equipment will be endangered.
Roads will be cleared in order of priority. Three priorities have been established with the objective being to get as much access to cleared roads as quickly as possible.
Priority One: This consists of 255 miles of FAS and County routes and requires about 6 hours to clear.
Priority Two: This consists of school bus and milk routes using the maps provided by school superintendents and require about 15 hours.
Priority Three: This includes mail routes and all other roadways that townships have previously identified as necessary roadways and require about 10 hours.
It is recognized that the given time estimates assume moderate snowfall,
Favorable weather following the storm and normal equipment mortality.
